A Single-Family Home in Somo

Somo

The house is designed giving priority to the wonderful views that are dominated from the plot on which it sits: the Cubas estuary, the Pedreña hillside and the bay of Santander. In this way, the house and most of its rooms have been arranged facing west.

Project detail

The building is located halfway up the hillside, taking advantage of the natural slope of the land and has two levels. The access is halfway up the entrance level. On the ground floor is the living room, dining room, kitchen and master suite, overlooking a large terrace open to the south, west and north. As an extension of the terrace, a sheet of water is proposed that extends into a pool in its last three meters. The entrance to this floor is developed in a bedroom area with bathroom, located to the northwest of the building.

From the same access level, you descend to the lower level, half-buried, although it slightly follows the lateral slope of the land. On the highest level there is a living area, from which you descend to the three suites that look out to the west. On this floor, there are also facilities and gardening rooms, as well as a covered and open hallway for parking two vehicles.

Among the materials used: white concrete walls -exposed and formwork with tongue and groove wood boards, arranged horizontally-; Passivated corten steel elements, as a visor. Both interior and windows are projected in varnished wood. The floors, interior and exterior, are made of ochre limestone 4 cm thick. The pool sheet of water sits on the same limestone, slate blue, to blend in with the sky.

All the exterior paths, including those for road traffic, are made of grass in continuity with the landscaped surface.

Maples, ash trees and lime trees among the trees that are located on the plot, except in the front, so as not to block the views
