Madrid-Barajas Airport
Terminal 1 - Terminal 2 - Terminal 3
A need for growth has been identified in T123 at Madrid-Barajas Airport, which will guarantee not only the operation and efficiency of the airport within the established timeframe, but also the comfort and quality of the passenger experience, accessibility, and the commercial and service offerings provided by the airport.
Project detail
For this reason, a future expansion building is being studied. It is proposed to construct a new building to unify the check-in, security and passport control, and baggage claim processes of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. This will provide new modern, rational, and efficient spaces and equipment for these uses, favoring passenger orientation, functionality, and flexibility of use.
As a result, the existing buildings of the current terminals will be freed of these uses and will be entirely dedicated to boarding gates, commercial and restaurant areas, and arrivals and departures circulation. At the same time, space will be freed up that can be refurbished at a later stage to accommodate the uses that are functionally and commercially considered optimal for the operation of the airport: offices, commercial spaces, VIP lounges, hotel, etc.
Estudio Lamela was involved in the concept design and has won a public competition for developing the full project design, including Schematic and Detailed Design, as well as Site Supervision.
