Project detail
The goal of the urban design and architectural elements of this $112 million, 2,300-acre project for Los Angeles World Airports was to develop and implement a phased master plan using architecture, graphics, landscaping, lighting and public art that would greatly improve the function, aesthetics, circulation and wayfinding for this international gateway. This innovative urban design project has transformed a public facility into a memorable landmark that reflects the unique cultural identity of the City of Los Angeles.
The LAX Gateway Enhancement was the first phase, completed in February 2001. This enhancement, with its progression of colored lit pylons and palm trees culminating in the 100’ feet high ring of pylons, transformed a bleak section of Century Boulevard into a landmark for LAX and the City of Los Angeles. Completion of Phase II, which includes LAX Central Terminal Upper Roadway Enhancement and Signage and Wayfinding, was completed in 2002.
